About Robert Vogel
Robert Vogel represents TQ-Group, a German technology group with more than 20 years of experience in drive and motion technology. As part of the TQ-Group leadership, he is responsible for the group's automation and robotics drive business — where his team develops the components that make collaborative robots, industrial robots and humanoid systems move.
TQ's robotics drive line, TQ-RoboDrive, supplies frameless torque motors and integrated drive systems that are used in collaborative lightweight robots, industrial robots, service robots and increasingly in humanoid systems. The company's frameless motors are valued for their high torque density, low weight and long service life — properties that are directly relevant for humanoid joints, where power, size and reliability are the limiting factors.
Session at Advanced Humanoid Forum 2027
Topic: "Drive Technology as the Enabler of Humanoid Robotics – From Industrial Robots to Humanoid Joints"
January 20–21, 2027 · Main Stage
The session looks at the actuator layer of humanoid robotics — the part of the system that determines what a robot can physically do. Robert Vogel explains what frameless torque motors are, why they became the de-facto standard in collaborative robotics, and how the same technology stack is being adapted for humanoid joints. He also discusses supply chain realities, cost trajectories and what robot OEMs need to know about drive technology selection.
Why His Perspective Matters for the Humanoid Robotics Ecosystem
- Actuator Layer Expertise: Humanoids live or die by their joints. TQ-RoboDrive is one of the few European suppliers with a proven frameless torque motor portfolio used in real collaborative and industrial robots.
- European Supply Chain: TQ-Group manufactures in Germany — directly relevant to the question of European sovereignty in humanoid robotics components.
- Exhibitor with Hardware: TQ-Group is not only speaking but also exhibiting at the forum — attendees can see and touch the drive technology discussed in the session.
- 20+ Years of Motion Technology: TQ's long track record across aerospace, industrial automation and collaborative robotics provides a rare long-term perspective on drive technology evolution.
